Director Lorenzo Sorbini, repped by Twice Productions, has been awarded Gold at the Kinsale Shark Awards for his branded documentary You Can Be My Eyes, I Can Be Your Ears, created for HSBC.
The documentary follows Jodie Ounsley, of BBC One’s The Gladiators, as she shares her personal journey of being born deaf, receiving cochlear implants, and navigating her path through sports. Told through Ounsley’s own voice, the film is complemented by heartfelt home video footage that chronicles key moments from her life over the years.
Lorenzo had this to say about the project and his award recognition, “Jodie is not just a force of nature—she is curious, kind, and resilient, with a positive spirit. In this film, I wanted to reflect my personal experience with her, showing both the challenges of living with a disability and the strength it takes to navigate life with it.
My biggest inspiration was Sound of Metal. We worked to create an immersive environment both visually and sonically—using shallow depth of field to keep her in her own world and carefully designing the sound to reflect what she truly hears through her cochlear implant. Directing her has been a truly unique experience”.
