Having recently signed BAFTA nominated director Peter Lydon to the Ridley Scott Associates’ roster, we revisit his short film ’Let’s get this over with…’.
This bittersweet Christmas film is gaining traction across social platforms for the second consecutive year. In it co-author and LinkedIn star Rob Mayhew strikes an all too familiar chord as he grapples with the annoying realities of the big day.
Peter and Rob’s partnership kick started a couple of years ago when Peter recruited Rob for his short film Creative Writing 2.1, just 48 hours before the shoot.
Rob’s comedy writing and performing has transformed him into a prolific TikTok and LinkedIn sensation through his razor-sharp take on agency life. With this film 'Let’s get this over with' and its huge leap in production value (for him) Rob takes aim at the traditional Christmas ad. And in the experienced hands of Peter Lydon, he shows off his versatility an actor.
While Peter is at home working on big budget films for brands like Carlsberg, Sky and Mercedes-Benz, wrangling icons like Al Pacino, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Mads Mikkelsen - he relishes the challenge of smaller projects like this. The duo completed their festive love letter in just 10-day.
“The turn-round was absurd” says Peter “but kind of exciting. I had a great team led by Kat Armour Brown and Carly Stone who never flinched. And of course working with Rob is a fun and super relaxed experience.”
Rob echoes those sentiments: “Peter is a joy to work with. He will always be my go-to choice, both as a director and collaborator”
The joint creative process has resulted in a funny, beautifully observed film which continues to resonate year on year.
