James joins Machine at the company’s newly expanded London base

Sound design and music company Machine is excited to announce the hiring of senior sound designer James Cobbold. He arrives at Machine’s newly expanded Fitzrovia studios with a portfolio of award-winning work and sound design experience honed over years at audio facilities 750mph and Jungle.

While James’ impressive showreel spans genres, the self-proclaimed ‘petrol-head’ has had a wealth of success on automotive projects. Cobbold's work on Sky Sports ‘F1: Watch it Live. Feel it All’ and Shell ‘Cold’ won Gold Music & Sound Awards, the latter also earning a Silver Kinsale Shark Award and Bronze Clio. ‘Raise Your Limits’ for McLaren was celebrated for Best Sound Design at Shots.

Other career highlights include films for Durex, RAF and Old El Paso. An accomplished musician, having first tinkled the ivories at the age of five, Cobbold has also composed music for clients including Nike, McLaren, Mont Blanc and Microsoft.

“I'm very much looking forward to joining the team at Machine,” says James. “I’m excited to get stuck into some amazing work here, hopefully adding to their impressive awards haul.”

“We’re really excited to have James on board for the next stage of the studio in our box fresh expanded space,” says creative director and sound designer Alex Bingham. “With cool projects on the horizon this year we'll be making full use of his excellent sound and music skills. Having a man of his talents onboard is going to be great, I'm sure James will be a good fit into the ever-growing machine family”

James joins Machine’s team of sound designers, composers and producers at an exciting time for the company. Fresh from a successful year of award-wins and growth into feature film and TV drama projects, Machine has refurbished and expanded its Fitzrovia base.

Head of production Louise Baker says: “Expansion at our London studios echoes the steady growth of our team. Machine now boasts a third sound studio and tracklay room, nestled beside new production offices and larger client areas. With lots more in the pipeline for Machine both in London and across the pond, our brand spanking new space is the perfect place to welcome old and new clients alike.”
