The virtuosic director, Michael Clowater, has signed on to JOJX for commercial representation. A filmmaker who’s won awards across many genres, Clowater has taken his signature quotidian character-driven style to the creative content studio known for creating forward-thinking and meaningful films.

Michael Clowater’s work captures the triumphs and tragedies of everyday life. His directorial eye can easily discern what images to hone and which stories will make his films ring true for audiences. His clever approach to comedy sees Clowater taking ordinary circumstances and amplifying them to extraordinary proportions, grounded with naturalistic performances. As a veteran commercial director, Clowater has worked with many large-consumer global brands like Pizza Hut, Heineken, Volkswagen, IKEA, Subway, Pringles, Kohler, and Samsung. His talent for mining the cinematic out of the mundane was most widely known for the viral Cheerios campaign “#HowToDad,” which earned him two Gold Bessie Awards and a spot on the coveted Cannes Lions shortlist.

Complimenting his commercial career, Clowater helmed narrative branded short films for companies like MadeGood, President’s Choice, and Interpolis. His narrative work also includes the award-winning short film “Four Eyes” as well as the short “Alfred’s New Dog,” which screened at the Guggenheim Museum as part of their exhibition on children’s comedy. He also recently wrote and directed his first feature film – a period road trip movie starring Alan Cumming and set in Eastern Canada – which is currently shortlisted at Sundance.
