As fans await the highly anticipated release’ Blade Runner 2049, they can get a taste of what’s to come with the first of the film’s official prologues, “2036: Nexus Dawn.”
The film, from RSAFilms director Luke Scott, fills in some key plot points between Blade Runner, set in 2019, theimpending sequel, set in 2049.
Revolving around Jared Leto’scharacter, Niander Wallace, the film introduces a new line of “perfected” replicants called the Nexus 9. Created by award-winning marketing agency 3AM, partner company to Ridley Scott’s RSA Films, and produced by RSA as part of Blade Runner 2049’s marketing campaign, “2036: Nexus Dawn,” was filmed onset during the film’s principal photography.
Ridley Scott, Executive Producer of Blade Runner 2049 and director of the famed 1982 neo-noir sci-fi classic Blade Runner, comments, "Creating this type of prologue film during theproduction of a movie is a very particular challenge and one of the principalreasons we started 3AM. You're dealing with a balance of production schedules, talent schedules, existing sets and locations, and asking a lot of people towork two jobs. And then you have to make sure it aligns with the filmmaker'svision. So, the idea, the script and the production have to address all ofthese variables. It's like building a plane as it flies.”
Luke is no stranger to creating film advertisingcontent, having directed award-winning films for Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, and The Martian. You can view those films at RSA.
Blade Runner 2049 debuts in theaters on October 6th.
