TSHA’s 360-degree experiential music video for ‘Sister’, one of the first if its kind, premieres today (24/11) at Outernet London.
The multi-screen immersive video for the London-based producer and DJ was created by illustrator and animator Alice Bloomfield, and will screen on the Outernet’s four storey, floor to ceiling, 360-degree, 16k screen surface – the most advanced on the planet.
Using a VR headset to simulate the space, Alice worked with the Outernet team over a two-year production process to map the animation across the screens and visualise how the video would play out. The resulting film creates an arcadian manga-inspired world in the middle of one of London’s busiest districts.
‘Sister’ is a vibrant piece of music packed with melody and emotion, written during lockdown after TSHA found out she had an older half-sister via her estranged father. “I’m very happy to have a new member of my family as I’ve not had much of that in my life," said TSHA. "The song is an expression of all of those feelings.”
“Every single frame of the animation is hand drawn, so it was a great project to focus on during lockdown. I’ve never created anything on this scale before, but TSHA’s track was really nice to work with as it’s so open to interpretation” Alice Bloomfield.
The project is the first commission from the Outernet and Ridley Scott Creative Group production company Black Dog Films as part of the TMRW NW commission, and launches to coincide with the physical release of TSHA’s debut album ‘Capricorn Sun’ on Ninja Tune (25/11).
TMRW NW aims to discover young creatives capable of producing films and A/V content that fully utilises the Outernet’s screen scale, definition, and configuration, with ‘Sister’ forming the blueprint for the future of experiential videos.
