Even amidst the marketing minefield that is Comic-Con International: San Diego, you can always count on Cartoon Network for some uniquely experiential creative. For the 2014 edition this July 24 through 27, Cartoon Network and the company’s in-house creative group have once again produced eye-popping, interactive booths for both Cartoon Network and sister network [adult swim], along with a variety of other activations that are sure to satisfy the super-fans of Comic-Con.
The main Cartoon Network booth for Comic-Con takes the shape of a giant cube, with each of the four main sides highlighting one of the network’s fan favorite shows: two of the sides will be dedicated to long-time Cartoon Network favorites Adventure Time and Regular Show, while the remaining two sides will feature relative newcomers Uncle Grandpa and Clarence. Once inside the booth, visitors will be invited to take photos in three unique scenarios: the teenage bedroom of Uncle Grandpa’s “Giant Realistic Flying Tiger”; with Clarence in his magical real world; or in a treasure filled cave with Finn and Jake from Adventure Time, all while fans listen to ambient inspired tunes from each of the scenes.
Adventure Time fans will also enjoy a return of last year’s “Adventure Time Conquest” scavenger hunt, which employs Comic-Con visitor’s mobile phones to lead participants to a wide variety of Cartoon Network partner booths in search of clues. Participants who collect all the scavenger hunt clues will be rewarded with a limited edition Adventure Time medal.
On the [adult swim] side, a refreshed version of the hugely popular inflatable Fun House provides the theme for the network’s booth on the convention floor. We don’t want to spoil all of the surprises, but we can say that a wheel of wonder at the booth will randomly decide the fate of those brave enough to take a spin.
New to Comic-Con this year, and situated right next to the Fun House, is a planetarium called “The Meatwad Full Dome Experience.” After entering through Meatwad’s mouth, visitors will be treated to a beautiful cornucopia of psychedelic animation created in collaboration with UK animation house, Golden Wolf.
