After close to a year of planning, Wolf at the Door officially dives into its new office in Venice. Founders Alex Kemp and Jimmy Haun together bring over 25 years of experience coming from Hum Music and Elias Arts, respectively. The launch of their company also introduces their new partner and Executive Producer Courtney Jenkins who was most recently at Massive Music in New York.
The decision to join forces could not have been easier for either Kemp or Haun.
“We’d always loved working on projects together, and felt like it was time to create a company where the music and creativity come first,” states Kemp. Haun adds “we really feel like the best music companies are the ones where the owners are on every call, and really have a hand in the music that’s being made.”
Adding to the 2200 square feet music studio space is its very own surf shop – Lone Wolfs Objets d’Surf. Just a quick bike ride from the beach, Lone Wolfs was dreamt up as surf shop for a new breed of creative surfer. Both Kemp and Jenkins are avid surfers. Kemp explains “the more we thought about putting a surf shop up front instead of a generic reception area, the more we saw an opportunity to get creative and work with our friends on a project that had a lot of life to it. Its been amazing.”
Already the industry has started paying attention, with various up and coming directors working on branded content for the surf brand, with WOLF AT THE DOOR handling music and mix, of course Wolf at the Door is fortunately living up to its motto of “make cool shit with cool people.” It’s currently working with brands such as Persol, Asics, Volvo, New Balance, and CVS to name a few; as well as some big hitters in the industry such as; Andrew Morricone, Bret Easton Ellis, and Raymond Bark.
“With music, communication is always a tricky thing,” Kemp offers. “So we’re focused on bringing something extra to the table when we work on a project- whether its creating a treatment that can help the team address the music, or establishing clearer goals when setting out to create a track.” Jenkins adds “The key to success is getting in early on project. And of course that’s not always possible, but when we have the time, the music will always bring something that elevates the film.”
In addition to their work spots, Kemp and Haun have worked on features for directors including Dito Monteil and Isaac Feder. And their ethos includes giving back- they donate a percentage of their profits to littlekidsrock.org, a music education foundation that brings instruments and learning programs to schools in need.
