Dez Macleod-Veilleux and Cayce Cole join the team

Next-gen, premier editorial, finishing, and VFX studio Uppercut welcomes Cayce Cole as EP in the recently launched Los Angeles office and Dez Macleod-Veilleux as senior EP in the flagship New York studio. Uppercut has expanded considerably since 2020, beginning with the addition of Lisa Houck as managing director, the company’s offices in Atlanta, and the rapidly growing Los Angeles-based team.

Canadian-born Dez Macleod-Veilleux began his career in Sydney, Australia at visual effects companies Cutting Edge and the Oscar-winning Animal Logic. Upon his arrival in the US, he landed at The Mill NY as an EP before moving to MPC, where he was instrumental in building out their NY and Mexico City offices as Head of Production. Macleod-Veilleux has since served as Senior EP at Framestore, overseeing business development for their NY operations, and most recently, as Director of Production at The Mill, where he was responsible for overseeing business development and strategy for its NY office. Throughout his career, Macleod-Veilleux has developed strong relationships with various agencies including Wieden+Kennedy, VMLY&R, Grey/Townhouse, Arts & Letters, The Martin Agency, and BBDO; with major brands including Apple, DoorDash, Spotify, Meta, Dell, AT&T, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Mercedes, Maybelline, and Ford; and with directors such as Nicolai Fuglsig, Rupert Sanders, and Filip Engstrom.

“I feel as though my career has been building to this moment,” says Macleod-Veilleux. “I’m looking forward to bringing the VFX knowledge I’ve honed at the various respected companies I’ve worked with to the amazing team at Uppercut. I’m very excited and feel privileged to work with Micah and Lisa and the entire crew in New York, as well as the Atlanta and LA offices.”

Cayce Cole started in production at Mars Media with renowned director Sam Bayer before joining The Directors Bureau, a then-young production company started by Mike Mills and Roman Coppola. Cole quickly moved up the ranks from Office Manager to Music Video Rep to Executive Producer, spending the subsequent decade overseeing projects for Mills and Coppola, along with Sofia and Gia Coppola, Romain Gavras, Melodie McDaniel, Patrick Daughters, Spike Jones, and others. She has since worked with Epoch Films, overseeing their rebrand and reboot; as an EP for artist and director Kahlil Joseph on work for Kenzo, Sampha and Apple, and BLK NWS; and as Managing EP for Even/Odd, an award- winning minority and immigrant-owned creative studio and production company. Cole has produced celebrated work across commercials, music videos, short films, fashion films, PSAs, animation, and live television.

“I’m both honoured and proud to join Uppercut’s expanding team,” says Cole. “I’m passionate about helping creatives to birth ideas, with a history of mentoring new and established creatives to realize their own visions. This is in such perfect alignment with Uppercut’s creative ethos, so I know that together we’re going to further establish our LA office as a destination for top talent in post-production on the West Coast.”

“Our ongoing aim is to bring in highly accomplished individuals, with strategic expertise and established industry relationships from areas outside of editorial,” says Houck. “Dez and Cayce offer valuable, tenured leadership in each of their respective fields - Cayce with her strong production background and Dez with his VFX history. We believe they will offer fresh ideas and new approaches to editorial from their unique perspectives. Most importantly, we all just clicked with both of them. Cayce’s warmth and hands-on style of talent management are reassuring; Dez’s VFX background is perfect for helping to build our VFX department exponentially. We couldn’t be more thrilled to add them to our team.”

Says Uppercut owner/editor Micah Scarpelli: “With every hire, we are very conscious that we are building the future of Uppercut, and the addition of Dez and Cayce is no exception. One of Dez’s many strengths is his extensive background in VFX, which will most certainly be called upon as we continue to build out our VFX capabilities and team. And Cayce’s background working with directors really speaks to her ability to recruit and retain creative talent. We are happy to add them to our growing team.”
