Directing team Sean and Andrea Fine, exclusively repped for commercials through Rabbit, received the 2013 Oscar® for Best Documentary Short for Inocente. The documentary gives a voice to a young teen, Inocente, fighting the insurmountable odds of growing up homeless with artistic expression. The duo was previously nominated for Best Documentary Feature Oscar® in 2007 for their doc War Dance.
After discovering the staggering statistics that 1 in 45, approximately 1.6 million, children in America are homeless, The Fines took it upon themselves to tell the story of these disenfranchised children. The short documentary originally aired on MTV in August 2012 and received accolades at the San Antonia Film Festival, the Arizona International Film Festival and was also included at the Hot Docs International Film Festival, Cleveland International Film Festival, Montclair Film Festival and the Melbourne International Film Festival.
The documentary spotlights a young artist’s determination not to surrender to her situation of an un-chosen life of homelessness. At 15, Inocente faces bigger challenges than most adults, but the hope in her story proves that it’s her dreams that define her rather than the hand she has been dealt.
