The community has launched its latest campaign, ‘Classic Monsters’ for Project Gutenberg.
The heart of the campaign is all about books. Because there’s something special about reading a book, especially a classic, and feeling like you’re part of the story, part of history. And while no one loves movies more than the community do, sometimes the list of movie adaptations based on classic books is overwhelming. And it’s a list that keeps growing year after year.
That’s why, together with Project Gutenberg, the community created ‘Classic Monsters’, a campaign that shows how movie adaptations can turn great classics into something a little bit terrifying. The community created three distinct print ads that each have a visual recreation bringing together the many movie characters over the years. For example, Frankenstein has inspired 153 movies, Dracula has inspired 189, and Jekyll & Hyde has inspired 87. Each ad invites you to download the free e-book at Gutenberg.org.
For a bit of context, Project Gutenberg was the first provider of free electronic books, and currently has over 60,000 free eBooks available. The Project Gutenberg Literary Archive Foundation (PGLAF) is the non-profit corporation that oversees Project Gutenberg. This is the community's second campaign with Project Gutenberg, following its 2020 award winning 'Crossed-out Classics.'
