SAXX Underwear Creates ‘Ballgorithm’ Sabermetric Stat to Encourage World Series Fans to Root for Balls

Hall Of Fame catcher Ivan 'Pudge' Rodriguez and baseball analytics expert Eno Sarris team up to announce campaign from Quality Meats

No other underwear brand cares for balls quite like SAXX Underwear. Their patented Ballpark Pouch was the first-ever hammock-shaped compartment designed to cradle balls for all-day comfort. It was even conceived by a former baseball player and replicates the design of an upside down catcher's mitt. So for the 2023 World Series, SAXX and Quality Meats are giving baseball fans an opportunity to show their appreciation for balls. Not just the ones in their pants, but the ones called at the plate. 

“Baseball glorifies home runs and stolen bases and strikeouts with all sorts of analytics to value them. But no one pays attention to balls - pitchers don’t want to throw them, batters don’t want to hit them.” says Shawna Olsten, VP marketing at SAXX. “As a brand devoted to caring for balls everywhere, we wanted to give baseball fans a chance to celebrate them, just like the ones dangling between their legs.”

This fall, the brand has teamed up with Hall of Fame Catcher Ivan 'Pudge' Rodriguez, who's literally caught and handled more balls than any catcher in the history of baseball, and baseball analytics expert and senior writer at the Athletic Eno Sarris, to create a new sabermetric that creates a value for balls thrown in a single game. Named the 'Ballgorithm', it’s a complicated equation factoring in all sorts of balls thrown (base on balls, passed balls, even 2-balls/no-strike counts) - an absurd yet totally legitimate take on popular sabermetrics like WAR or OPS. The duo explains the math behind the new balls-focused statistic in a new film SAXX launched during the Championship Series. 

SAXX is asking fans to predict the 'Ballgorithm' prior to each World Series game and share with the brand on social media. After each game, SAXX will share the game’s 'Ballgorithm', and any fan who predicts the exact percentage can win SAXX for life. Plus, the brand will step up to the plate for the good of all men’s balls, taking the “Ballgorithm” from each game, multiplying it by 1000, and donating that dollar amount to the Testicular Cancer Foundation.
