RESET director Yann Demange's short film DAMMI, starring Riz Ahmed, is an enigmatic odyssey of identity and belonging that navigates us through the cobbled streets, boulevards and bustling bars of a surreal Parisian dreamscape.
Poetically walking the line between abstract cinema and documentary, the subject matter is particularly resonant for Yann who left Paris aged two, creating a distance between himself, his father (who appears in the film) and his Algerian heritage.
The short premiered at the 2023 Locarno Film Festival and had its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Co-produced by luxury fashion brand, AMI PARIS, Alexandre Mattiussi, AMI Paris founder and creative director, expressed his admiration for Yann’s vision, “There was a strong desire to produce a genuine cinema story. This was the start of an extraordinary adventure with Yann Mounir Demange, a director whom I have admired for a long time. He created ‘Dammi,’ a magnificent, moving, very intimate short film about his father and his childhood."
Yann made a name for himself directing the entire first season of Top Boy, as well as feature films; ‘71, White Boy Rick, the series Lovecraft Country, and directing commercials for Instagram, Nike and FIFA amongst many others.
