Visual effects wiz Jordi Bares, the post production lead on many of the most highly regarded TV commercials of recent times has left his role as The Mill’s 3-‐D Creative Director to become Deputy Creative Director at Realise, the high-‐end Soho post production studio.
Jordi has earned himself a reputation for pushing creative boundaries on famous commercials and music videos, collaborating with some of the world’s leading directors for brands like Adidas, Citroen, Guinness, Heineken, Levis, LG, Nike, Philips, Sony and the band Radiohead. Jordi was an early advocate of artificial intelligence software Massive, which he used to stunning effect to create the huge crowds central to the action in acclaimed spots like Frank Budgen’s ‘Mountain’ for Playstation, and Guy Ritchie’s ‘Next Level’ spot for Nike.
Extremely grateful to have been able to play a role in The Mill’s continued international success, Jordi moves on after ten years with high ambitions for the next evolution of technology and creativity in film making.
Jordi says, “I’m joining the talented and senior team at Realise at a crucial time. Recent innovations in lighting, texturing and rendering are ushering in a whole new era for post production. With their creativity and bespoke approach to projects, I look forward to delivering the full potential of these techniques with the Realise team.”
Paul Simpson, Creative Director and founder of Realise, “We’ve been big fans of Jordi’s work for a long time now. His commitment to detail and the reality of the sequences he builds really chime with our approach. Having such a talent on board means we can continue to grow creatively and technically, and we look forward to working on some extraordinary films together.”
A qualified architect, Jordi also worked in software engineering and 2-‐D animation before he left Barcelona to join The Mill in 2002. This eye for structure, and creating effects that are grounded in physical reality is very much the driving force behind his approach. His craft and problem solving abilities have helped many directors and agencies win awards and recognition, and his own contribution has also been noticed. Jordi has picked up numerous BTAA Craft Awards, multiple Clio Awards, D&AD yellow pencils, and gongs at the Australia Effects and Animation Festival, Australia's Young Guns, London International Awards, for work including the commercials Sony Playstation ‘Mountain’ and Toohey's ‘The Quest’.
Jordi joins Realise at a busy time for the full-‐service post production studio. The Soho-‐based boutique, founded in 1996, has a diverse portfolio of high-‐profile clients working in commercials, TV, film, computer games and fine art. Recent projects include commercials for Audi, BMW and Mercedes, the creation of a striking animated marble horse for the Chemical Brothers world tour, large set pieces for feature films Prince of Persia and Pixar’s John Carter, and Sky’s acclaimed TV adaptation of ‘Treasure Island’.
