Following the recent addition of international director Henrik Rostrup, Picture North continues to expand its global talent pool with the signing of respected Swedish editor Simon Pontén, marking a strategic evolution in the company's post production capabilities.
With over two decades of editing experience, Simon brings a unique rhythm-driven approach to his craft, shaped by his background as a professional drummer. This musical sensibility has informed his work for global brands including Volvo, Ikea, H&M, Porsche, Adidas, and Xbox, creating visually rich commercials known for their precision, pacing, and emotional resonance.
"Simon Pontén is a new kind of signing for Picture North," says Picture North founder and executive producer Martin Rodahl. "Prior to the pandemic, rostering editors around the world was almost unheard of. Now, thanks to our decentralised post production model, we can work with artists across continents and time zones. This has opened the door for incredible talent like Simon whose reel oozes class and creativity. We love bringing fresh faces to the US market, and I'm confident that Simon's reel will be loved by directors and agencies alike. Whether it's working with him remotely in Stockholm, or in-person at our edit suites in Los Angeles and Chicago, our clients now have access to an incredible editor with a fresh and cross-cultural perspective."
Born and raised in Stockholm, Simon began his editing career at just 17 years old, assisting on documentary projects before transitioning through unscripted television and eventually finding his flow in commercial editing.
"I'm really excited to join the Picture North team," says Simon. "Their approach is refreshing: they understand that good editing isn't only about technical skills, it's about finding the rhythm that connects with audiences. They know when to push and when to hold. I think we'll make some pretty cool stuff together."
Beyond his commercial work, Simon has also co-written and directed award-winning short films that have found success at international film festivals in South Korea and England.
Simon's signing represents Picture North's continued commitment to offering clients access to world-class talent regardless of geographic boundaries.
