Pop Secret and OkCupid announced a partnership recently that will help people find Valentine’s Day dates in a whole new way: by matching people according to the movies they like.
“Movie Match” allows users on OkCupid to find a new set of matches on the dating site based on movie compatibility. The results are calculated through a series of movie questions interspersed with existing OkCupid match questions. The movie matches show up on a separate match page.
“A person’s preferences in movies and entertainment says a lot about their personality,” said Meghan Beresford, Creative Strategist at OkCupid. “Our data has long shown that someone’s feelings about horror movies is a good predictor for compatibility.”
The partnership is part of Pop Secret Labs, a year-long initiative created by advertising agency Deutsch LA to improve home movie watching with digital apps and other projects. “Popcorn and movies are the perfect match,” says Andy Allcock, Director of Marketing at Pop Secret. “Pop Secret wants to bring back the magic and excitement of the movie experience at home.”
In addition to the new movie match questions, the collaboration includes a Movie Date Sweepstakes that allows one member and his or her date to fly to New York City for an ultimate movie date experience, with a stay at The Plaza and a visit to the Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn.
There will be singles mixer events held in cities across the U.S – Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Boston and Chicago – all sponsored by Pop Secret.
