The judging panel will be made up of Regan Warner, ECD at McCann London; Peniel Gebreselassie, Eleanor Weitzer, creatives at McCann London, Jack Bayley, director of integrated production at Craft/ McCann and Zoe Antonov, Europe reporter at LBB, representing an influential mix of creatives, producers and curators across journalism, agency and in-house production.
The judges will announce the winners from the ‘Brand New’ category, designed for the most fresh new and under-represented directors entering the industry, and the winner of the ‘Moving Up’ category, designed to give newly signed directors the extra vote of confidence to get them onto TVC jobs.
Shiny exists to get more new and diverse directors into advertising production, and the prizes for shortlisted and winning directors reflect that ambition. Brand New directors win an array of valuable meetings with in-house producers, production company reps, production partners, plus services like free location services, free grades and free edit suite dry-hires. Moving Up directors win rare and invaluable time with creative teams and ECDs at major advertising agencies.
Shiny is widely respected in the industry for applying quotas to its shortlists. As always, at least 70% of the shortlisted work comes from underrepresented directors, according to class, ethnicity, gender, disability and sexual orientation. Judging is conducted in anonymous conditions to ensure meritocracy at every stage.
Caroline Bottomley, MD, Shiny, says “We’re really excited to connect new talent with meaningful prizes through our high quality network. So many people want more diversity across the industry and this is a very practical way to help that happen. Because we use quotas to address inequality we know we can reach and support many more under-represented, new directors."
Tanya Bogin, managing director, Craft, adds, “We’re long standing fans of Shiny here, and are excited to welcome the Awards to Craft & McCann London's HQ. Like Shiny, we are passionate about offering diverse and emerging talent a meaningful route into the industry and are looking forward to seeing all the best work at the Awards
Tickets for the Shiny Awards on Thurs 25th Jan are now sold out, but it's worth joining the waitlist and living in hope.
