The original sports action brand Vans announces its 2023 global brand campaign, 'This is Off The Wall,' the first project under its new foundation. The campaign launches with a bold and dynamic anthem film directed by Will Dohrn and produced by Love Song.
Focusing on the journey of self-discovery through creative exploration and expression, ‘This is Off The Wall’ is a powerful human homage to all creators. The film features Van’s ambassadors – artist Little Simz and Van’s Skate Team riders Beatrice Domond and Felipe Nunes – reflecting how they seek authenticity in themselves, their relationships, and the world while propelling culture forward.
In the anthem film, Will plays with a sense of scale and brings the audience on a kaleidoscopic visual journey. In-camera distortion and multi-layered VFX - done by The Mill - bring the creative paths of Little Simz, Beatrice, and Nunes to life. The film keeps the creators as the focal point, visualising them as unique and individual auras while scintillating in-camera efforts warp the surrounding environmental elements in their wake, showcasing how each brings their distinctive style to every part of their lives.
“I was immediately inspired when I saw the script,” says Will. “I wanted the film to feel reminiscent of classic old skate videos and utilize VFX elements to make it fresh and contemporary. Ultimately, it’s a subtle nod to the homemade, DIY, punk aesthetic that Vans was born out of.”
Will joined the Love Song roster earlier this year. The award-winning commercial and music video director has collaborated with artists and brands, including Stella McCartney, Jeshi, and IDLES.
Love Song was founded by Kelly Bayett and Daniel Wolfe.
