Little Black Book to Launch Newsletter Dedicated to Canadian Industry

Spearheaded by our dedicated Canadian reporter, Josh Won Neufeldt, readers of local Canadian advertising news can now have it delivered directly to their inboxes

Hey Canada, we’ve got some exciting news for you to kick off February!

Specifically, Little Black Book is going to be launching its very first, dedicated Canadian newsletter next month. It’s something we’ve been contemplating since we brought in our dedicated reporter for the country, Josh Won Neufeldt, but we've only just now decided to pull the trigger.

So was this the right time to get started? Well, there are several key factors which drove this decision.

For a start, we realised that despite being an international publication, emphasising local news matters. Although Canada comprises the website’s third highest viewership base, topped only by the UK and USA, its news is still forced to go toe-to-toe with work from every other country around the world. As such, we want to ensure each and every story gets a slightly longer moment in the sun and that our Canadian community (and Canadian-curious readers) get the specific news and insight they need.

Moreover, we at LBB wanted to make things extra easy! Sure, anyone can filter by country on our platform and view an amalgamation of Canadian work and news - it’s not a complicated ordeal by any means - but if we can centralise everything, why not do it?

“Let’s save you time during your busy work days,” Addison Capper, Americas editor, says. “We’re going to put everything in one spot for you, and bring it right to your inbox on a regular - but not annoying - basis.”

Another huge positive worth addressing is the fact that, like everything else on LBB, the newsletter and all its stories will be paywall-free.

“Personally, I think that Candians working in the industry should actually be able to see the stories they’re featured in,” says Josh. “What’s the point of a news story if nobody can read it without paying? How’re you going to show people your work or your critical thinking if the majority can’t read it?”

But, beyond the paywall, ease of use and platform uptime discussions, there’s also just the fact that, at the end of day, Canadian work is exceptional, and deserves additional spotlight.

“Yes, I get that it’s a competitive industry, but I can’t help but feel a strong sense of pride whenever I see any given agency or production hub bring home success that reflects on a national level,” concludes Josh. “I want to hype that up. We’re a country that, for years, has dealt with lower budgets, but still puts out work that contends with the very best in the world. So, week after week, shouldn’t we be celebrating that, and drawing a little more attention to it?”

Canadian readers who love our international coverage and creative inspiration around the world can still receive our daily global newsletter as they wish to - this is an added extra that will make Little Black Book even more useful as a global and local resource. It’s a model we’ve already been running in Australia and New Zealand, where our brilliant reporters Tom Loudon and Casey Martin help make sure the local market is in the know - while amplifying AUNZ brilliance globally.
