Rounding out its 20th year of business, the powerhouse of advertising’s audio post production corner now boasts a roster of 15 mixers and sound designers

Lime Studios, located in sunny Santa Monica, California, first opened its doors at the end of 2003, having had their first session at the start of 2004, the first of what would eventually be tens of thousands to come leading up to countless award winning campaigns sound designed and mixed.

Over the years, Lime expanded from two to 12 total studios; if you’ve ever had the full experience, then you know that while they offer the highest calibre of talent, they also offer the highest calibre of clients services.

Imagine this: you’ve been working on a campaign for weeks between pre-pro, production, editing, VFX, animation, music, colour, finishing, and you’re arriving at your audio post session. The location: Lime Studios - sound design has been approved, your VO talent arrived early and they’re filling out their paperwork, you check in and see Susie’s smiling face walking toward you to greet you. A friendly face from the client service team approaches asking, “Would you like to order any coffee or breakfast?” …they hand you a menu - you see the words 'breakfast burrito' and you’re sold. You order your latte, head into your session, it’s all off without a hitch. Don’t forget the afternoon cookies and surprise cocktails from the resident bartender.

Ok, ok, yes, Lime IS known for audio post production. Lime’s mixer roster consists of Loren Silber (co-owner/co-founder), Matt Miller, Rohan Young, Zac Fisher, Ben Tomastik, Peter Lapinski, Adam Primack, Joel Waters, Sam Casas, Tom Paolantonio, Jeff Malen and Dave Wagg. Most recently, Lime has expanded their multicultural market offerings with the additions of Christian Laszlo and Jaime Zapata. Their sound design department is spearheaded by Michael Anastasi and Rohan Young.

“20 years ago, fresh from London, I was in a bind looking for a room to do a sound design job for John Boiler who was freelancing while finding the first space for 72andSunny. Some mutual friends suggested I call Bruce...they only had 2 rooms, but I set up shop with a rig in the ping pong room. Later that day, Alberto Ponte and Andrew Levengouth were running over for a Nike job in another room, so I picked that one up too and 20 years and 12 rooms later, here we still are.” Rohan Young, veteran sound designer and mixer, remembers his arrival in LA and the start of what would be years of new clients and success.

Co-owner and co-founder, Bruce Horwitz adds, “I feel so lucky to have survived 20 years in our little corner of the post production ecosystem. Lucky to be part of the work, to be sure, but more than that, to have hung around long enough to watch assistants become mixers, baristas become producers, single college grads become parents, and clients become lifelong friends.”

As one of Lime’s veteran mixers, Loren Silber is now entering his own career milestone having been a mixer for over 30 years, having seen his career truly take off once starting Lime. Loren acknowledges, “It’s been incredible seeing Lime grow from a two room start up to the company we have today. We’ve done an amazing job growing our talent within the company and the younger generation has really hit their stride. We’re so proud of our amazing team and what they continue to accomplish. Here’s to twenty more years!”

Having been at Lime since the doors opened in 2003, mixer Sam Casas reminisces, “What an honour it has been to see Lime’s spectacular growth to the audio powerhouse it has become today. I believe what sets Lime apart is the fact that we are more than button pushers, but rather fully invested, creative story partners. We dig in and hand craft every minute detail, but never forget to look at the big picture and consider how best to serve our clients’ vision. All while creating an experience that is fun, relaxed and hopefully delicious. IYKYK.”

Lime has worked on brands such as, Honda, Comcast, Hyundai, Toyota, Sam Adams, Nissan, Lexus, Coke, Gatorade, Turbo Tax, Doritos, Nike, United, NFL, Call of Duty. The team’s creative partnerships have contributed to over 300 Super Bowl campaigns, winning countless awards such as Emmy’s, Cannes Lions, AICP’s, Pencil’s, Webby’s, Gerety’s, and they’re only just reaching their peak stride.
