Kronenbourg 'Farmers of Alsace'

This beautiful but amusing Kronenbourg commercial takes us to Alsace, where the hop farmers are treated as footballers are in Britain. The spot, which stars Manchester United legend Eric Cantona, was shot in the French region on 35mm film by Director Ivan Zacharias and DOP Jan Velicky.

“Our Data Lab scanned the 35mm then converted it to data for me to grade on our brand new Baselight grading system" says Framestore's Senior Colourist Simon Bourne, who graded the commercial. "I was tasked by both Ivan and Jan who are extremely creative and known world wide with bringing together a common colour palette which runs throughout the commercial.”

“Although it was subtle the slight washes and strong pastel colours pushed by the low contrast gave it quite a soft look but strong at the same time allowing the beautiful film qualities to come through. The grade was intense as they are quite specific but the results were well worth it."

In addition to the grade framestore also carried out the clean-up and compositing on backgrounds and characters.
