Experiential agency saw 50% YoY growth in Japan in 2024; recognition as campaign’s Southeast Asia Brand Experience AoY

Mayumi Ninomiya, general manager, Jack Morton Japan

Jack Morton, the global brand experience agency, is expanding its operations in Asia to Tokyo, and has hired Mayumi Ninomiya as general manager. The new office, situated alongside Jack Morton’s IPG sister agencies in Aoyama right in the centre of Tokyo, looks out across the stunning Meiji Jingu Park, and will serve as the hub for operations across Japan.

The expansion builds on Jack Morton’s growth in the region, with 2024 seeing over 50% YoY increase in business in Japan, with local and global clients engaging the agency for creative brand experience thinking and execution. With Japan’s constantly evolving and thriving culture, myriad of sub-cultures and thirst for entertainment, the agency has delivered numerous standout brand experiences over the past year for clients such as Google, Netflix and Shiseido Group.

Mike Kunheim, president, EMEA and Asia, added, “This development comes at an important time for our agency and the region where global attention is focused on events like Expo 2025 in Osaka. We are excited about the opportunities and investments from global technology companies combined with Japan’s advanced tech infrastructure, skilled workforce, and strategic location.”

Building on more than a decade in the region, Jack Morton was recently recognized as Campaign’s Southeast Asia’s Brand Experience Agency of the Year and Yi Hern, senior creative director, was named one of The Most Influential People in the Events Industry in Asia for 2024.

To fuel its growth, the agency has appointed Mayumi Ninomiya to serve as general manager in Tokyo.

“Japan is so hot right now for brand experiences, and we expect to double our business in Japan by the end of 2025. So it’s imperative we find great people who are fundamental to our expansion across Asia,” says Phil Boyle, SVP, managing director, Asia. “I’m thrilled Mayumi has joined us in the role of general manager of the Tokyo office as she brings a breadth of experience in building business in the region and delivering an impressive record of brand experiences.”

With more than 15 years in marketing, Mayumi has significant expertise in the region with global clients, delivering activations in Japan while blending local culture and brand experiences. She spent 10 years at MCI, a global renowned event marketing agency as their general manager. Mayumi is focusing on building a strong team in Japan to support the growing demand from global brands looking to invest and host activations in this market.

“I chose to work at Jack Morton because I can collaborate with colleagues from around the world, while growing our local production and creative teams. I’m eager to help our Japanese clients connect with our global resources and creative expertise to deliver amazing, impactful events!” explains Mayumi.

The Tokyo presence adds considerable creative firepower to Jack Morton’s offerings in Asia and is looking to grow rapidly. The agency is actively looking for a Creative Strategist and a Senior Producer and looking to expand the team throughout 2025.
