The partnership aims to bring world leading research into mental health within the creative industries to Ireland

To coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week, ICAD has partnered with Never Not Creative in Australia to announce the largest ever study into mental health amongst commercial creatives in Ireland. This first-of-its-kind initiative will tie in with the global research while also looking specifically at Ireland’s commercial creative sectors.

Started in 2018, the bi-annual Mentally-Healthy research has played a pivotal role in making mental wellbeing a priority in the Australian creative industries. Past findings showed that almost half of the Australian industry had experienced signs of anxiety and depression, while a third of people believed they would be treated poorly if they disclosed a diagnosis of depression. You can find out more about the 2022 wave of research and results here.

Neil Rooney, executive director of ICAD, who previously worked on Movember’s mental health programmes for 10 years said, “This research will enable us for the first time to verify what the issues and contributing factors to poor mental health in the Irish creative industries are”. He went on to say that ‘through the Mentally-Healthy research and our partnership with Never Not Creative, we seek to identify interventions that could lead to a measurable reduction in key markers of poor mental health such as anxiety disorders, burnout and stigma.

The survey takes about 20-30 minutes to complete and is open until the 31st of May. It’s a highly worthwhile exercise as it allows each of us to check in with ourselves as well as contribute to vital research that informs the initiatives and interventions developed by ICAD in collaboration with the Mentally-Healthy Change Group.
