Agency Africa launches font to confuse word tracking machines used by governments

In crucial times for freedom of expression and online privacy, Amnesty International is launching the “Mutant Font” project. The data is decisive for the beginning of this campaign: 80% of Brazilians are against the US government intercepting, storing, and analyzing the internet in Brazil; 65% are against the Brazilian government intercepting, storing, and analyzing communications by internet and cell phone and 55% are in favor of transparent and independent supervision of any controls.

Having this in mind, an online font was created to protect the privacy of those who write online.

How does it work?

Machines track texts on the internet through the shape of their characters or the source font. Mutant Font has a design with small graphic interventions that stop machines from viewing the shape of the font and its algorithm is shuffled every 24 hours to make automatic scanning difficult. There are 7 fonts that can generate thousands of different codes to confuse the tracking and protect data. That way, users can read the information, but the machines cannot.

Just log on to www.mutantfont.com, type your text into the generator, copy the created code and paste it on your blog’s post editor.
