Executive producer at Epoch Films, Jacki Calleiro, shares some of the most memorable short films that stayed with her

I’m a shorts junkie through and through. Blame it on my ADHD, my career in commercial film production...or a personal rebellion against film school bros insisting we watch all three parts of 'The Godfather' in one sitting? Who knows!? But, the beauty and craft of a short film will never go unnoticed by me. Here are five of my recent favourites...

Short Film - 'Same Old'

Production: division7
Director: Loyd Lee Choi

I saw this brilliant short at NYFF, and it blew me away. So beautiful and poignant. I still think about it all the time.

Dropbox - 'Goes By So Fast'

Production: Ways & Means
Director: Harry Israelson

I’d personally like to see more branded content like this. It’s a fun story, and Harry beautifully packages creative direction for this album along with this film. Why can’t this be the future of advertising?

Short Film - 'Little Jerry'

Production: Simularia Pictures
Director: Charlotte Ercoli

I love Charlotte and her brain. This shoot started as something completely different, and the day before, her lead talent couldn’t make the flight, so she changed everything on a dime - and made this gem. A wild, stressful, weird, funny short. The NYers will get it.

Adobe Stock Film Fest - 'Muya'

Agency: 72andSunny LA
Director: Graydon Sheppard

There is nothing harder to work with than stock footage. Graydon’s ability to tell a story using only stock footage is a feat and a work of art. I care, Muya!

'Have You Eaten Yet?'

Director: Christina Xing

A traditional Chinese mother and her American born Chinese daughter share a phone call together, but struggle to be honest with each other and themselves. The film deals with the lies we tell each other for pride within the 'American Dream' and the facades we put on to show our loved ones that 'we made it'. A very real and raw reflection on mother-daughter dynamics. The masks we wear in our intimate relationships, and the quiet distance those masks create. At least, that’s what I got from it...
