Robbie the Robot, the Creature from the Black Lagoon and more join Glen Luchford and Christopher Simmonds on an otherworldly campaign
Here at LBB we’re partial to a bit of retro sci fi, whether we’re binge watching the original run of Star Trek or getting tattoos of the Creature from the Black Lagoon. So the latest Gucci campaign, 'Gucci and Beyond', which plunges the fashion brand into the high camp of ‘50s and ‘60s B movies is right up our solar system.
The film and stills references the aforementioned ‘Creature’ as well as classics like Lost in Space and, of course Star Trek. Taking the role of Ed Wood (the legendary purveyor of so-bad-its-good Hollywood schlock like Plan 9 From Outer Space) are photographer and director Glen Luchford and art director Christopher Simmonds. Both are represented by Art Partner. The campaign complements the Fall Winter collection from Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele, which takes its cues from Kirk and co.
This is no highly digitised CG spacescape – the team have lovingly drawn from old school special effects techniques to ensure that the visuals have texture and authenticity.
