Directors McMillan and Nelius partner up again for new atmospheric drama

The Melbourne International Film Festival has announced the selection of short film Buoy. Buoy is the first narrative drama film co-directed by Goodoil's Justin McMillan and FINCH's Christopher Nelius.

Seasoned directors in their own rights with work spanning commercials and branded content they have collaborated frequently on documentary work. The creative partnership began in the water, with the biopic of legendary big wave surfer Ross Clarke-Jones, and continued into an original series for Discovery Channel "Storm Surfers". Building on the series success their feature documentary "Storm Surfers 3D" sold internationally, won Runner-up Best Documentary at the Toronto International Film Festival, the International 3D Society award for Best Documentary and the AACTA award for Best Feature Documentary.

Buoy is an atmospheric drama that draws on the mythic power of the ocean, showcasing powerful performances from cast Otis Oates (The Code, Deep Water) and Oscar Redding (Top of the Lake, The High Road), as well as spectacular cinematography from Tim Tregoning and underwater filming from Dean Cropp.

The film was edited by Simon Njoo, composed by Michael Yezerski and VFX by Cutting Edge.

Buoy Premiers Sunday 13 August 2017 at 1:30pm at Melbourne's International Film Festival.
