Aspiring filmmakers supported in new venture

Film London today launches the London Borough Film Fund Challenge (LBFFC), a short film fund for aspiring filmmakers, open across the whole of London for the first time. Application forms and guidelines can be found here.

An award-winning grassroots production scheme responsible for kick starting a number of film-making careers, the LBFFC is supported by Creative Skillset and delivered in partnership with seven London Boroughs.

The LBFFC includes production funding, alongside mentoring and a training programme for the selected film-making teams. With an open application process, the LBFFC is available to grassroots talent who are resident in London. Commissioned films will also be eligible for Film London's Best of Borough Film Awards, which will take place at BFI Southbank in 2013.

The London boroughs of Haringey, Islington, Kensington & Chelsea, Lambeth, Redbridge, Southwark and Wandsworth have partnered with Film London to provide additional opportunities to their local residents.

"We are delighted we are now able to extend this successful fund to offer it to all London residents" commented Film London and British Film Commission Chief Executive, Adrian Wootton, noting this was "thanks to the ongoing support of Creative Skillset, and also our borough partners".

Dan Simmons, Creative Skillset's Head of Film said "the LBFFC is an important opportunity for grassroots talent to start developing their film skills in a nurturing, industry environment and experience, perhaps for the first time, the realities and processes of getting a film made and finding an audience."

The LBFFC is funded by the Creative Skillset Film Skills Fund as part of 'A Bigger Future 2', the UK film skills strategy.

Since its launch in 2006 the LBFFC has produced over 160 short films. Many up-and-coming film-makers have used the fund to launch a career in the production industries and several have won prestigious international awards, including best European short film award at the Berlin Film Festival.
