Appointing seasoned director Damien Cassar as the company meets a growing demand for short-form digital films
As it marks its first anniversary Engine Room Productions has appointed seasoned director Damien Cassar.

Cassar has directed several award-recognised short films, and has an extensive background writing and directing TV, documentaries, advertising and corporate work. He was a director on reality series MTV Style Me, music documentary The Other Stage and comedy web series Town Centre. He has also directed local and international projects for clients including Red Bull, Air New Zealand, Qantas, McDonald’s, Communications Council, Herman Miller and Sydney Opera House.

Engine Room was established in early 2014 by executive producer Adrian Hyde in partnership with digital creative content agency Red Engine and currently has a permanent team of fourteen.

Since launch it has built a strong reputation for delivering high-end online film content for a mix of leading agencies and advertisers including Ensemble, Waterfront, PHD, Edelman, Telstra, Commonwealth Bank, PayPal, Metcash, Macquarie and Intel.

Adrian Hyde said: “It’s been a whirlwind first year, but Engine Room is meeting a growing demand for strategically-led digital screen content for the ‘always-on’ online audience. The production industry has experienced some tough times over the past few years, but our model has been designed for clients who are increasingly turning to digital first content creation.

“Damien has a wealth of experience in short film production and brings valuable knowledge and insight to the business. We are delighted he has joined the team and are looking forward to the next 12 months.”

Engine Room has recently finished a series of special films for Camp Gallipoli to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Anzac. They included all of Australia’s past and current Victoria Cross recipients and also included contributions from Ray Martin, Shane Warne and Shannon Noll.

To mark the first 12 months in business it produced this reel as a snapshot of the journey so far. It has also recently been named as a finalist in the production category at the Mumbrella Awards.
