Curry Brand and Under Armour have unveiled 'Carolina Red'

Curry Brand and Under Armour have unveiled their latest :60 spot narrated by Dave Chappelle called “Carolina Red”, which was created to celebrate Stephen Curry reaching 4,000 career three-pointers. Stephen hit this milestone in tonight’s game against the Sacramento Kings while wearing Curry Brand’s latest drop dedicated to his own zodiac sign, the Curry 12 ‘Pisces’.

In December 2021, Stephen surpassed Ray Allen as the all-time leader in three-pointers in the NBA and since then, he’s continued to show that he is in a league all his own. Reaching this historic milestone of 4,000 career three-pointers cements his name among the greatest to ever play the game of basketball and this latest spot reminds us all that there is simply no one like him, but with a clever twist.

The spot is brought to life and narrated by world-renowned comedian Dave Chappelle, who very seldom appears in brand spots. Chappelle begins by setting the scene with the state of North Carolina, where the sport of basketball is “life”. He goes on to mention that one player in particular from North Carolina has changed the game completely since stepping onto the court. Chappelle notes that this player is a scorer, a champion, an icon, and of course, people want to be like him.

Someone watching at this point might think that he must be talking about Michael Jordan, who is so strongly associated with North Carolina… but, that’s just it. There is another great basketball player from the state of North Carolina, who quite literally has changed the way the game of basketball is played. A four-time NBA champion beloved by this generation of basketball fans globally, someone they all aspire to be and play like.

Dave then says “Say his last name” and boom, there appears a smiling Stephen Curry. The pace of the spot then immediately picks up, showing highlights of some of Stephen's splashiest three pointers from his time at Davidson and throughout his NBA career. Real color commentary from over the years about him and his ridiculous shooting ability take over the audio while a fast-paced song plays underneath it. The clip of Curry breaking the initial NBA three-point record in 2021 is one of the last highlights shown and shortly after, an announcer’s voice says “Stephen Curry, all-time three-point king in the NBA” as the words “The Game Changed… Again” come on screen. The spot then ends with the Curry Brand and Under Armour logos.

A nod to how Michael Jordan changed the game with his NBA career, this spot through the distinctive voice of Dave Chappelle celebrates not just this incredible milestone of 4,000 career three-pointers but the larger impact that Stephen Curry has had on the game of basketball. Stephen hasn’t just joined the club of all-time greats… he has created his own, winning championships and mowing down NBA milestones with a smile on his face (mouthguard in tow) and skill that still boggles the mind. His joy and creativity on the court plus the longevity of his career puts him in a league of his own, and Curry Brand is proud to celebrate him in this moment and support him as he continues to change the game for good.
