Price was most recently Senior Flame Artist at Electric Theatre Collective

Creative studio Carbon has strengthened its team in Los Angeles with the addition of Creative Director John Price, who brings over a decade’s worth of industry experience in VFX, Flame and post-production.

Price joins Carbon LA after a stint as Senior Flame Artist at Santa Monica-based Electric Theatre Collective, where he picked up a Cannes Lions Entertainment for Music prize. The veteran creative spent the majority of his career at fellow notable VFX studio The Mill, where his work for top-tier brands including Nike, Toshiba and Cadbury earned him notable industry awards from D&AD, LIA, British Arrow and Visual Effects Society among others.

“When I heard that Carbon was looking for a Creative Director and having admired their work, I thought it would be a great opportunity for me,” he says. “Learning they wanted to expand their VFX capabilities in Los Angeles, I was naturally intrigued. The idea of growing with a team of creative, like-minded people and to work alongside Whitehouse Post seemed like an opportunity not to be missed.”

In his new Creative Director role at Carbon LA, Price will serve as a visual consultant to the studio’s clients, executing from conception to delivery, while guiding the work and his team creatively and technically throughout the whole process. “We’re really excited about John joining us in LA,” says Executive Producer Matthew McManus. “His personality fits so well within the culture of Carbon and Whitehouse, he comes with lots of amazing work under his belt, and his hire further strengthens our emphasis on pushing creative at Carbon.”

Along with his commercial work, which most recently includes a “very sexy spot” directed by Melina Matsoukas for fashion designer, Stella McCartney, Price has also lent his VFX/post talents for high-profile projects such as Beyoncé’s “Formation” music video, a global smash that garnered 7 million views within 48 hours of its release and was recently named Video of the Year at the MTV VMAs. “It picked up a couple of Lions at Cannes,” Price recalls. “It was my first job away from The Mill and it filled me with confidence to know I could create great work without the support from very senior artists. An even bigger highlight was a note I received from Beyoncé saying the work I did was ‘too realistic’ – I think that quote should be on my LinkedIn homepage.”
