SoStereo chats with the musician about his inspirations, Colombian meals and what is best about being a Latin American artist

Hi, I’m Salomón Beda, and this is Behind The Stereo.

Q> If your music were a movie, what do you think it would be?

Salomón> If my music were a film, I think it would be a Wes Anderson film, because I like to take people on an adventure with my music, I like to take them to different worlds, to different colours.

Q> How did you first get into music, and what inspired you to become an independent artist?

Salomón> I got into music, because for me, music is a necessity. I always say that music is like nutrition, for me at least, like food. Without it, I couldn’t be able to survive. I need it to express myself and have that freedom.

Q> What are your three favourite Colombian meals?

Salomón> I would say that my three favourite Colombian meals are ajiaco, bandeja paisa y arroz con coco.

Q> If your songs were a Colombian dish, what would it be?

Salomón> I would say it would be 'mojarra frita' (fried fish), 'arroz con coco' (rice and coconut) and fried plantains. My father was born in Barranquilla, the coast of Colombia, and I was born in Miami, so my music has always been inspired by the sand and the Caribbean.

Q> Mention three feelings you would like your songs to express.

Salomón> Gratitude, nostalgia and love.

Q> One of your songs is called ‘Bacana,’ tell us what the word ‘Bacana’ means.

Salomón> 'Bacana' is a Colombian slang for cool, awesome, dope.

Q> What do you think is the best thing about being a Latin American artist?

Salomón> The diversity and the culture we have, it’s so inspiring to make music. Just the food, the sounds, just the mix of history and culture. I love it, proud to be Latin.

Q> What is your favourite part of being a SoStereo artist?

Salomón> The care and the love that I get from the SoStereo team. I know as an independent artist, you guys have my back and I love that.
