BBH & Baileys’ Nutcracker Ballet

Who needs boy drama? The sumptuous new Ringan Ledwidge-directed Baileys spot shows that between lovelorn soldiers and predatory club owners, sometimes your best bet is to stick with a girls night out.

Danced to a re-imagining of Tchaikovsky’s The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from his ballet The Nutcracker, the spot features a trio of ballerinas who visit a baroque nightclub called Candyland. Characters from the original story come to life as the story unfolds. Clara arrives with her friends and immediately sets eyes on the disheveled Nutcracker Prince - and before long a smouldering, jealous Mouse King joins the action.

 

The spot stars Steven McRae and Thiago Soares, both principal dancers with The Royal Ballet, and Iana Salenko, guest principal with The Royal Ballet. The spectacular dance routines were choreographed by Benjamin Millepied, the world-renowned dancer and choreographer behind Black Swan, and the incoming director of the Paris Opera Ballet. 

 

 

The creative was developed by BBH London and the spot was produced by Rattling Stick. The full two minute version of the film will air on November 16th, fittingly during Channel 4’s broadcast of Black Swan.
