In a further boost to its design offering, BBH has also hired design director Miguel Sousa

BBH London has appointed award-winning designer Liam Thomas as its head of design.

Liam joins BBH from Grey London, where was head of design, working across brands including Aquafresh, Braun and Peta. At BBH, he will be responsible for leading the agency’s design offering, elevating output and leading the burgeoning department.

Prior to joining Grey, Liam was head of design at DEPT®. He has worked on major accounts including Nike, Tinder, Under Armour and Twitch and was senior designer at Manifesto Studios, Made Thought and AnalogFolk.

Recent award-winning work includes a Webby at the 2023 Webby Awards for Canesten’s ‘The Truth, Undressed’, which also picked up a Gold Clio at the Clio Health Awards 2023 and a Bronze at the Clio Awards.

Liam is also a co-founder of SOMEDAY – a creative experiment rooted in Welsh culture exploring local stories through design, events, apparel and conversation.

Liam said, “I’m thrilled to be here at BBH, ready and eager to elevate our work and build an exceptional team. I’m also deeply committed to championing working-class representation and making our industry more accessible.

“There’s still so much to be done to ensure creative careers are open to everyone, and from the start, it was clear that BBH is a place where those values align perfectly.”

Felipe Serradourada Guimaraes, deputy executive creative director, BBH London, added, "After meeting many senior designers, Liam was by far the stand out candidate. He has experience in running several departments and has the talent to back it, but it was his personality and hustle that won me over.

"During our discussions, Liam was so passionate about design he cared less about getting the job and more about sharing great work, stuff he had either made or seen, and all the talented people I should hire. For a minute it almost felt like he didn’t want the job, but the reverse psychology clearly worked, because I soon made the offer.

“He’s already hit the ground running with great work coming out the door for Burger King and Tesco. Watch this space."

In a further boost to its design offering, BBH has also hired design director Miguel Sousa.

Miguel is a multidisciplinary designer, creative art director, and illustrator, who has worked with leading brands including Samsung, KFC, IKEA, Stella Artois, Doritos, Hellmann's, and Magnum.

He most recently led the design for a global Samsung campaign in collaboration with Ogilvy's teams in Toronto and New York. Before this, he spent more than five years at Mother London.

Earlier in his career, Miguel was an art director and designer at Lola MullenLowe in Madrid and Saatchi & Saatchi in London. His work has been recognised at Cannes Lions, D&AD, One Show, Creative Circle and Effies.
