Arts & Letters Shows that 'América Has An Accent' for Hispanic Heritage Month

Arts & Letters is launching a new short film, titled 'América Has An Accent'. 

At A&L, they strive to create an environment where everyone can feel a sense of community. Months ago, its Latino community set out to find a way to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month within agency walls, and they realised quickly they were all united by a shared experience. Being Immigrants or being born of Immigrants, they rallied around a common truth that is still present in culture today: being fully and proudly Latin-American is complex, and the tug of war between assimilation and embracing your heritage is constant. While many first generation Latinos assimilated into American culture as a matter of survival, today, bicultural Latinos are embracing their dual identities. But still, sometimes, the perception persists that people with different accents, traditions, and races aren’t American. Or American enough.

'América Has An Accent' is a labor of collaboration, having created a groundswell of support from other groups in the creative industry.  Together with Easy Mondays, Exile, Animal Music and Assembly, A&L created a film over Hispanic Heritage Month, to celebrate the cultures, contributions and stories of Latinos in the US. The film shows real people and communities, and gives viewers a glimpse of their stories. 

The short film is led by a spoken word voiceover and features filmed portraits from Miami, Los Angeles, and New York City, where we can see the vibrancy, energy, and contributions of these Latin-American communities.
