In his native South Africa, Antony Hoffman became a filmmaker/journalist for international press syndicates AP and ITN, documenting the anti-apartheid uprisings in the embattled townships around Cape Town. Fascinated by the violent human drama unfolding before him, Hoffman developed a raw, unaffected visual storytelling style that has since come to define him. True to form, Hoffman proved a quick study and won major advertising awards at Cannes and London Film Festivals and then the NY Clio Awards.
Antony has worked on high profile global campaigns for brands such as: Nike, Motorola, Nissan, Visa, and BMW, to name a few. Hoffman’s famous Super Bowl commercial for Budweiser “Clydesdales” earned him a Gold Lion at The Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival, a distinction he duplicated the following year. The film is now in the permanent collection at the NY Museum of Modern Art.
In 2010, Hoffman created the new Mercedes SLS Gullwing film that aired during the World Cup, shot Antonio Banderas for Iberostar as well as American Express and McDonalds for China.
Antony has quickly become one the most famous and sought-after commercial directors for the China market. He started off 2011 with a nine minute film for the launch of the SLK Mercedes. That lead to a series of Mercedes projects for the Chinese market with stars such as: Lin Chilling, John Houyou, Bing Bing and a project for Cadillac starring Karen Mok.
He is currently in pre-production on The Beautiful Life starring Mickey Rourke and is in development on two projects: a biopic of legendary F1 race driver Niki Lauda and Taxi Wars with producer Lucas Foster starring Forest Whitaker. Antony resides in both Los Angeles and London.
