Anna Snowball's documentary 'Iranian Yellow Pages' offers a captivating journey into the vibrant Iranian community in London. The film delves into the hidden world of this community, which can be found within the pages of a local Farsia newspaper.
Through the lens of Raza, a character striving for success in his new life in London, the documentary showcases the connections and experiences of individuals caught between two cultures.
Repped by Fresh Films, Anna's inspiration for the film stemmed from her encounter with an eccentric Farsi language paper in a Persian restaurant, where she became fascinated by the intriguing free ads and the stories behind them.
The film beautifully captures the universal theme of resilience in the face of adversity. Employing a mixed media style, Anna aimed to bring to life the diversity and richness of Islamic culture. The collaboration with a talented crew resulted in a harmonious blend of sound design, score, mixed-media animations, and footage, creating an exuberant film.. Composer Terence Dunn, guided by Anna's vision of 'maximalism', crafted a score that draws from pre-revolutionary psychedelic Iranian pop music, creating the perfect heartbeat to the film, an eclectic, mesmerising humorous musical core, that elevates the soul of the film.
