The company has grown considerably since launching in 2007, and the U.S. foothold represents a major step in its evolution

Having established itself as one of Canada’s premiere commercial post-production facilities, alter ego is now bi-coastal with the opening of its new Santa Monica studio.

Partners Greg Edgar, Eric Whipp, and Wade Odlum are excited for this new chapter in the company’s history. Renowned as one of Canada’s best colourists, Eric will head up the new team alongside executive producer Pravina Sippy, colourist Kya Lou and colour assistant Corey Martinez.

Eric, whose credits include multiple award-winning commercials as well as feature films including Mad Max: Fury Road and the upcoming Mad Max: Furiosa, will also continue to service alter ego’s Canadian clients.

Previously at L.A.-based Mr. Wolf, Sippy is an experienced and dynamic post-production EP whose extensive credits list includes commercial work for high-profile brands including Toyota, Beats by Dre, and the NFL, as well as music videos, TV, and feature films.

Kya, who was previously at Primary in Santa Monica, is a sought-after colourist with a distinctive style whose credits include Old Spice, Google, and Calvin Klein. “When considering another colourist in LA, Kya’s work had a level of polish, depth, and finesse that I admired” said Eric.

Launched in 2007, alter ego has been contemplating U.S. expansion for some time. With the increased adoption of hybrid work, it has become easier to move into other markets,” said Edgar. “The ability to work in the U.S. is much different than it was previously,” he said. “We can now offer more of our talent and services to the U.S. market.”

alter ego has also added colourist Ana Escorse to its team. Escorse has spent considerable time working in the Brazilian market, and that country’s reputation for vibrancy and energy is evident in her work across commercial films and music videos.

“Ana brings a very distinct feel and look to her work,” said Edgar. “She’s bold and fierce and her dynamic personality will fit in well with our talented colourists.”

Escorse and Kya join Eric, Wade, and colourists Andrew Ross, James Graham, and Lily Henry, pushing alter ego’s colour team to seven people, with emerging talent Jonah Venneri and Malini Khotsiphom also on the rise.

alter ego’s global team is nearly 50 people, with eight Baselights, eight Flames, and talented CG and motion design teams. “We’ve got an amazing team, and with remote capabilities any of us are available anywhere in the world” said Wade. The company is marking the expansion with new branding and a revamped website here.
