Outside of Pride season, people don’t think about 2SLGBTQI causes. So, to promote their holiday fundraising efforts, advocacy organisation Egale, together with advertising agency TAXI, has launched a new campaign showing how the holidays have #AlwaysBeenQueer.
Set to an original cover of ‘Deck the Halls’, the launch video showcases various festive and campy holiday vignettes—from rainbow-coloured ornaments to a nutcracker by the fireplace, to a fabulous holiday sweater, and more. Before revealing how for many 2SLGBTQI people, the holidays can also be one of the toughest times of the year. “With the sparkle, glitter, and non-stop Mariah, the holiday season is a natural time to think about the queer community,” says Allen Kwong, creative director at TAXI. “So, we wanted to get people thinking about the struggles that many 2SLGBTQI people face during the holidays and how to help.”
In fact, over 60%* of 2SLGBTQI people surveyed say they feel unsafe to authentically be themselves during the holidays. Some are rejected by their families and find themselves alone.
The campaign is supported with CRM, social, and wild postings that will be rolling out throughout December.
