A famous art sculpture, curated by the most prestigious art galleries in the world, judging the acclaimed piece “Hands” from Coke?
At first glance, the new ADC Call For Entries Annual Awards campaign seems surreal, but it is not far from the original vision of the Club’s founder, Luis Pedlar. In 1920, Pedlar founded the Art Directors Club with the genuine aspiration to elevate commercial art to the level of fine art and to celebrate it with the same critical eye.
Under the tagline “Let The Art Decide”, the campaign is designed to unify these worlds by letting real artwork, in this case the work of famous Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara, be the judge of advertising, design and communications.
The campaign created by the Manhattan-based collective, The Conquistadors, involved the collaboration of five artists, including Yoshitomo Nara, the production house Good Morning Films that recently produced the Coke commercial and its giant Santa Claus puppet, and the visual effects and animation artists who were recently awarded in various European festivals for the movie “Eva.”
