Macy’s is the place for all things holiday. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, its magical windows, the real Santa, endless inspiration in gifts for all, a rich history in pop culture, shared traditions to uphold and newness to explore. No one celebrates the holidays quite like Macy’s. This year, its excited to team up with BBDO New York to announce the return of an anthemic film; a celebration of the holidays and the special moments that Macy's plays a part in. The film is just one part of Macy's larger holiday marketing campaign, which will also include digital, social, and print advertising.
Santa's arrival in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade officially signals the kick off to the most magical time of the year. This year, Macy's wanted to surprise Santa with a little something special by telling the magical story of a selfless little boy on a secret mission, sampling fragrances, and flipping frying pans as he searches for the perfect gift, because Macy’s has the perfect gift for everyone on your list – even Santa.
The feel-good commercial was shot at the Macy’s Newport Centre store in Jersey City, NJ and we used the 'real' Santa from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The song used is the 1953 recording of 'Hey Santa Claus' by The Moonglows, famously featured in the beloved holiday film, Christmas Vacation.
“During the holiday season, it's common to see parents hunting for the perfect gifts for their loved ones. So we wanted to flip the script and show a young kid gifting the hardest working man of the season something for “after work.” said Matt Low and Kristin Clark, SVP creative directors at BBDO New York.
