Culver City/Vancouver-based visual effects house Zoic Studios has signed Emmy®-winning Creative Director Rainer Gombos. Gombos will serve as a Creative Director and VFX Supervisor. He joins Zoic on the heels of his 2012 Emmy® Award win for Best Visual Effects for his work as VFX Supervisor on the season two finale of HBO’s acclaimed series, Game of Thrones. The German visual effects veteran, most recently at Pixomondo, boasts a diverse background in blockbuster features including Fast Five, Sucker Punch, 2012, Beautiful Creatures and Sin City, commercial work for Snickers, Saturn and Total to name a few, as well as myriad music videos and video games. Gombos comes from a fine arts background, bringing passion and precision to every project he works on.
Gombos studied animation and graphic design in Germany before beginning his career as a freelance visual effects and graphic artist, honing his 3D animation and design skills on work for broadcast films, immersive experiences, video games, feature films, shorts and commercials.
While he originated as a 3D Artist, Art Director and Technical Director, over the years Gombos has shifted to work in a comprehensive VFX Supervisor capacity, coming on board at the earliest stages and ushering the VFX vision through the final delivery. Through his seven years immersed in the expansion of Pixomondo, he has fine-tuned his ability to craft international creative teams as large as 200 artists, custom tailored to each project. He has garnered numerous accolades along the way including a 2001 1st Place Animago Award for his work on “Caravan” and a 2012 VES Award for Outstanding Visual Effects In a Broadcast Program for Game of Thrones.
Says Gombos, “Zoic has a very impressive pipeline in place that I can’t wait to begin working with. It is such an asset to put out a large amount of shots in a short amount of time and still be able to focus on the quality of the work.”
Says Zoic’s Executive Creative Director/Co-Founder Loni Peristere, “Since our inception in 2003, our company mission has been to evolve the art of visual storytelling. Rainer’s mission is the same. He is part of our continued commitment to be the very best in our industry. With his talent infused in our studio, the possibilities are endless.”
