Words Become Weapons in Depeche Mode Video 'Wagging Tongue'

In a world where words can only be spoken under water, The Sacred Egg’s promo for Depeche Mode follows a couple in communication breakdown. The first lyric of Wagging Tongue, ‘You won’t do well to silence me’, is ominously captured in TSE’s film where written dialogue is public property, whereas underwater speech is free. Shot in timeless black and white, the video sees words become weapons and real expression come at a cost.

The Sacred Egg said, “Making a video for a band like Depeche Mode is obviously an honour. It’s also a slightly daunting task, considering their music video heritage, but I’m proud of where we got to with ‘Wagging Tongue’. I think the idea developed into something interesting and I hope people interpret it in their own way. Logistically what was meant to be a very simple shoot turned into something much more complex. Thankfully, we managed to pull in some very skilled heads.

From production, through to edit and post there are lots of people to thank for making it happen; With a special thanks to anyone who put their head into a Bulgarian lake to test the water temperature, you know who you are. “
