Alvaro Sotomayor, long-serving Creative Director at Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam and a renowned Spanish political artist, launches his new exhibition Toro to the public this weekend at Amsterdam’s Westergasfabriek.
The painting series by Amsterdam based Sotomayor makes heroes of the 69 victorious animals from Spain’s long bullfighting history and is the result of three years’ work by the artist.
Toro follows Sotomayor’s earlier photographic series that graphically depicted humans suffering the bull’s fate, and sparked hundreds of activists to bring his concept to life in a series of flash mobs across Spain in the 1990’s.
