Halifax has today unveiled its latest TV advertising campaign, set in the 1984 New York city streets – home of cult classic movie Ghostbusters.
Created by adam&eveDBB, the advert sees the return of Halifax colleague Greg as he delivers new contactless Visa debit cards to the Ghostbusters and gets swept up in some ghostly goings on along the way.
For the second time in this series featuring famous fictional characters, the advert uses original film footage, with Greg (actor David Rees Talbot) filmed in a London TV studio and then painstakingly superimposed during post-production.
The TV ad will be first broadcast on Sunday 12th August on Channel 4 during the season finale of the Handmaid’s Tale. Characters from the Ghostbusters film will also feature alongside Greg in a national campaign across branches, outdoor, radio, press and social media, as well as online advertising to help promote Visa contactless usage.
Russell Galley, Managing Director, Halifax said: “Our down to earth colleagues are always looking for ways to make banking as straightforward as possible and our customers’ lives easier. We want customers to have a choice of how they manage their finances, that’s why we’ve teamed up with Visa to demonstrate just how easy it is to go contactless when paying for things under £30.”
Catherine Kehoe, Managing Director, Brands and Marketing, LBG, added: “Following the success of our Wizard of Oz commercial, we are once again delving into the world of film classics - this time the iconic 1984 ‘hit’ Ghostbusters. As a straightforward bank, we keep things simple, so seeing Greg show Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis just how easy it is for our current account customers to pay with Visa contactless works perfectly!
