In the developing world, people are starving. More than 1 billion live on less than $1.25 a day. Meanwhile in privileged countries, we choose to go on diets. You see the irony here? But then, why not take advantage of this bizarre fact and let our vanity feed their mouths. Introducing the latest health trend: The 1.25 Diet. But unlike other diets, this one can make a difference. For real. Not just for the one person losing a couple of pounds but for the 1 billion people who live below the poverty line.
Take a moment and ask yourself a question: How much do you spend a day on food? $20? $40? Whatever the answer is, pick a day to participate in the diet simply by consuming food for no more than $1.25. You’ll experience these people’s everyday reality. And discover how hard it is to manage. But maybe most importantly: All the money you save that day, you can simply donate to those in need through Givesom.
At launch, a number of well-known bloggers have decided to support the movement. These bloggers will go on the 1.25 Diet for a day and share the experience on their blogs and Instagram accounts in the next few weeks.
Behind this initiative is Givesom - a social media charity that was founded by Lin Kowalska and Michaela Forni in 2014. Unlike many other established charities, Givesom focuses on smaller amounts of donations which the younger generations can afford. The 1.25 Diet was created by creative duo Henrik Düfke and Felipe Montt at ad agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky in Stockholm, Sweden.
