Lead colourist Jon Dobson provides grade for the iridescent Bentayga model launch

Bentley unveils their new Bentayga model with this iridescent spot. Wash’s lead colourist Jon Dobson provided the dazzling grade.

Collaborating with Al Clark at Outrun Films, the team at Wash are proud to deliver an otherworldly end product for the launch of this uber-luxurious SUV. In the words of the brand: the Bentayga redefines opulence and exclusivity in the market of luxury cars.

Taking this vehicle into a blank white studio, we brought a full 3D world to life, including car reflections by Wash’s VFX/3D experts led by Tim Wetherall and Jon Evans.

Al Clark, director: “The concept itself was relatively straightforward but required heavy post, which was handled beautifully by the team at Wash. For me, the flexibility of having the grade and VFX under one roof at Wash made everything even simpler - the whole experience was a real pleasure.”

Tim Wetherall, senior VFX producer: “For us post production works best when it’s really thought about in the pre production stage. This gorgeous film is a great example of live action and post production working together in perfect harmony.

In recent times there has been a trend for many car commercials to be shot at a virtual production studio to get the reflections and lighting effects that give car commercials that liquid metal vibe. With this film Al approached us wanting to try and have that aesthetic while shooting in a normal white studio.

This project with Al was a fantastic opportunity not only creatively, but from a workflow point of view. The end result, in our opinion, looks epic while retaining all the real-time lighting effects on the shoot.”

Jon Dobson, lead colourist: “It is always a pleasure to work with Al and the team at Outrun, and provide grade and VFX for the project. For this spot we really hit our stride and were able to create something that does the vehicle justice. It’s a great feeling when you get to watch an idea come together from the early stages of development to the final delivery.”
