Volkswagen Canada proudly unveils the Grass Station at Collision, North America’s fastest-growing tech conference featuring people and companies that are redefining technology worldwide. Volkswagen is the first automaker to appear at the Canadian event, which is happening at the Enercare Centre in Toronto from June 26th-29th, 2023.
Taking centre stage at the event, the Grass Station is a full-scale reimagining of what gas stations could look like in a world beyond fossil fuels – because as we move closer to a future where every vehicle on the road is an EV, we’re also reimagining the future of automotive infrastructure.
The Grass Station is covered in moss and live plants, reconceptualising tomorrow’s gas stations as a communal space and EV charging station. Inside, attendees can explore two of Volkswagen's flagship all-electric vehicles: the ID.4 and the ID. Buzz – the latter being an all electric reimagining of Volkswagen’s iconic microbus. Attendees also have the opportunity to unleash their creativity and design their own Volkswagen electric vehicles at an AI-powered terminal.
“We wanted to inspire people to imagine what comes next,” said Mike Richardson, creative director at TAXI/Type1. “Thinking beyond traditional car shows, we figured the best place to do so was at an event that focuses on the power of technology and the future.”
“The Grass Station is more than just a far-off dream. This kind of future is closer than you think,” said Lynne Piette, Volkswagen Canada’s director of marketing communications. “Volkswagen Group is aiming to have every vehicle we produce be electric by 2035.”
Volkswagen Group has also recently invested in the St. Thomas battery plant in Canada, and has partnered with Electrify Canada to help create a network of ultra-fast charging stations all around the country.
