Featuring the recognisable faces of the cast including Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldana, the stylised titles feature a mixture of CG, manipulated and composited stills, and some treated footage, all brought together with a distinct, gritty monochromatic look.
Each frame appears in slow motion, with mixed media layers creating an epic and textured feel, perfectly paving the way for the suspense filled series.
Creative director, Filipe Cavalho, drew ideas from the battle field, the war room, drones footage, projections and maps, which juxtapose ideas about location and luxury lifestyle. He explains, “We wanted to paint a picture of what it’s like to be at war, feel the dust in the air and the hot sun on your face and really capture those details through atmospheric imagery.
Working with the wonderful photography, shot on location by the well-known war photographer Lynsey Addario, it became a matter of elevating those shots to their best cinematic potential. Bringing them to life using CG, compositing, projection techniques and animation to work up our desired look and feel for the sequence.”
Untold Studios executive producer and head of creative partnerships Luke Colson explains, “Having worked with the show’s Director and creator Taylor Sheridan on Yellowstone, 1883, and The Mayor Of Kingstown Main Titles, I was thrilled to work with him and the team again. As with all his shows, Taylor likes to see the cast in his opening titles, which makes them unique but also challenging.
We wanted to create an original and exciting look and feel to these titles, but we wanted it to feel like a Taylor Sheridan show. It also needed to set up the premise of the series, the crossover between action in the field, and the outside world too, a juxtaposition of the carnage of war, and the money that drives it.”
