Unsigned was established in 2018 with the singular ambition to: ‘put diverse talent on your radar.’ It aims to reinstate our commitment to discovering and collaborating with undiscovered, and unrepresented photographers, directors and illustrators. By looking outside of the traditional channels and elevating the most exciting emerging talent, it is a platform which enables the whole industry to benefit from the collective output of months of research and curation.
And whilst the pandemic may have prevented the annual exhibition from going ahead at BBH’s Kingly St office this year, the Unsigned team weren’t going to let this get in the way.
Introducing ‘The Class of 2020’ edition of Unsigned magazine - commissioned, edited and designed by Unsigned’s team of BBHers, designed by our amazing designer Charley Ray. The Zine features our curated selection of unsigned photographers, directors and illustrators alongside interviews with the artists themselves (and Unsigned alumni of the previous years), an exclusive look at the forthcoming Unsigned Union, a ‘Free The Work’ spotlight on the featured directors and a look back on the five winners of this year’s Good News Open brief Illustration Competition.
The magazine explores a number of topics alongside this year’s lineup of artists; from the moral responsibility of artists to capture controversial issues in society, to how sex work can teach you about making it big as an artist, to the new Unsigned Union that is yet to come.
In 2020, the conversations around representation and diversity have rightfully become key drivers of change in the advertising industry. With this new important generation of Unsigned talent, the team are proud to be making a positive contribution to this movement whilst singularly focusing on giving a voice to the most outstanding emerging creatives working today.
